The inaugural Montezuma Half Marathon took place in this hot, muggy Sunday. The race gave out some pretty sweet singlets, a medal, and nonspill wine glass for only a $35 registration fee. They had to bus you into the start area since being a wildlife refugee there isn't any parking. They started about 30 mins late and funneled you through this unsteady, thin start/finish line structure. The race was through the beautiful trails of Montezuma with rolling hills. Many, many, many rolling hills. Many people complained about the difficulty of the course but in reality I don't think they knew what to expect from a trail run. They aren't as easy as teaching in the road. One great issue was the lack of water in the course and if you did find some it was minimal and warm.
Despite the challenges, for me and some..not Jared of course, Jared won at his easy pace. I surprisingly (though it wasn't a competitive race) was the 7th female to cross the finish line and took 1st place on the 30-39 age group. We both got a bottle of Montezuma wine! Yum.
