I was finally able to get back on the trails after a brief hiatus due to the weather here. You probably are thinking I am soft and I should just go out and train in any conditions. Well, you would be half right. I am soft, I hate the cold; however, training in those conditions could cause some real injuries for me. I am still new to running in the snow on trails and it really takes a toll on my body. My goal is to run these upcoming races, not get injured before them. Also, Jared has been racing and I attend all his races so I often run while I am waiting for him to finish.
Anyways, we were able to get to Highland Forest for a run. It is always a tough, slow run at Highland but it is the best spot to train for my upcoming ultra. This week was a lower mileage week and it was perfect to see how much I had lost in fitness during my hiatus. Fortunately, I didn't lose much but I found myself walking a bit on the hills. I attribute that to the snow though too.
The day after Highland I really had some issues with my calves and plantar fasciitis. I have been battling these aliments for a few weeks and I luckily have kept them away. The knots are so bad in my calves that I have electro stimulation on them to loosen them up. Regardless, better weather is around the corner and I can't wait to get some real training in again. We did get to test out the new GoPro and we got some great shots. Highland is so beautiful.
