Went into this race thinking I could do even better since I did so well at the Syracuse Half. Turns out I was about 3 minutes slower and my piriformis started acting up really bad. I had terrible calf cramps and was so glad when the race was over. Jared ran the whole thing with me and we had a great weekend eating Cheese steaks, cannolis and sightseeing. The race had awesome swag. It was very well organized. The expo had great things to buy (too bad it was freezing cold and located outside). We received a long sleeve tech shirt, finisher medal, coffee mug, and back pack.
Jared and I volunteered at packet pick up to help out our friend, and race director, Rick at Leone Timing. #syracusehalf #runthecuse #cusehalf
After getting a PR at the Lake Effect I wasn't too sure I could pull off another. This course was changed from the year before and it had more hills than the flat fast Lake Effect course. Of course, being here in Syracuse, it was freezing too. I was running late to the start line and ended up fitting in too close to the front. I didn't really notice I was keeping up pretty well with the pace until I got to mile 10. Luckily that's when I ran into Laurel, Jared's sister, and she ran a bit with me and told my Jared was in first so far. That gave me a jolt to get to the finish. I crossed the finish with no one there to cheer for me. I went to get a coffee and there was Jared. I was 6 mins early - 1h 49 mins. He thought he had time to see me finish. I did better than the last race and he won :) |
